Rainbow Fire Station

During the month of March the children at Rainbow Cooperative Preschool have been pretend playing in the Rainbow Fire Station. They have had a lot of fun driving the fire truck and police car and have been busy putting out fires.

Field Trip to the Fire Station

Today the Tiger class visited the Bowling Green Fire Station. Later in the month the Bears and Lions will do the same field trip. It is an important field trip to reinforce fire safety and calling 9-1-1. Here is a fire fighter in all of his gear to show the children that they do not need to be afraid of a fireman. Many thanks to the Bowling Green Fire Department for this wonderful experience.

Showing Kindness to Others

During the month of February, the theme was "Fill Your Hearts with Kindness." The Rainbow parents and children brought in food donations for the Bowling Green Food Pantry. This picture shows the food donations ready to be delivered. The children helped count the items and the total number of food donations was 140. What a wonderful way to show kindness to others!!!!!!

BGSU Hockey Visits Rainbow

We were so lucky to have the BGSU Hockey coach and 2 BGSU Hockey players visit Rainbow. The coach explained the equipment used. The hockey players each read a book to the children. One book was Hockey ABC's and the other was Hockey Numbers. What a wonderful opportunity for the Rainbow children!!!!!!

December Field Trip

Rainbow went to Stimmel's Bakery this week for a field trip. The children learned how cookies are made at the bakery. Then, they got to frost two cookies and put sprinkles on the cookies. Of course, the sprinkles were a big hit. This was a very fun field trip and a hands on learning experience for the children.

Thanksgiving Program 2010

The four year old preschool children at Rainbow Coooperative Preschool had their Thanksgiving program for parents, family, and friends. Each child chose to be a Pilgrim or a Native American Indian. The children made their costumes and each child had a speaking part to tell the story of The First Thanksgiving. The children sang several songs and did the dance and song "Turkey in the Straw. The evening ended with Mrs. "K" inviting all siblings up on the stage to hear a Thanksgiving story.

Rainbow Playhouse

The children had a wonderful time in October pretend playing at the Rainbow Wendy's and Rainbow McDonald's restaurant themes.

End of the Year Party

We had our End of the Year party for each class this week. This is a photo of the Tiger class spray painting Rainbow T-shirts. It was a really fun activity and the weather was perfect. All of the children had a fun time at their parties. Many thanks to the parents planning the acitivities.

Field Trip to the BG Fire Station

The Rainbow Lions, Tigers and Bears learned about Fire Safety in March. The Rainbow Playhouse theme was Rainbow Fire Station. The Rainbow children visited the Bowling Green Fire Station. The firefighters talked about fire safety and one even dressed up in his gear so the children could see and hear how a firefighter is in a real fire. The children enjoyed seeing the fire engines and sitting in one, too!!!! In this photo, you can see the firefighter crawling around in his fire fighting gear.

Pajama Day

The Rainbow children enjoyed wearing their pajamas to school for Pajama Day. Tommy Toothbrush came to visit to talk to the preschoolers about brushing their teeth and that the dentist is their friend. In this photo, Tommy Toothbrush is asking them to get their pretend toothbrush and toothpaste and brush their teeth. See how darling the children look in their jammies!!!

December at Rainbow

Rainbow studies Hanukkah with 8 days of receiving gifts, Kwanzaa and Christmas discussing traditions with songs, art and snack time. Our playhouse is the Gift Wrapping Station shown in the photos.. Children wrap gifts for birthdays, thank you, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, wedding, new baby, etc. We culminate the study of Chirstmas with the arrival of Santa Claus who presents a gift for each child. Each parent needs to have a wrapped gift for their child at Rainbow.

BG Holiday Parade

Each year Rainbow has a float in the Holiday Parade. This year the theme was Candy Cane Express. Rainbow's float was a train like the Polar Express. The children wore their pajamas over the coats and wore Santa hats. The float committee worked very hard and did a great job. That is what Rainbow is all about. The parents' commitment and dedication to Rainbow is remarkable. Hope you enjoy these photos. The children looked so cute.

Computer Center

Rainbow has 4 computers that the children use. A child has at least 15 minutes, once a week, one-on-one time at the computer with Mrs. "K". Rainbow,also, has internet. In this photo, two of the computers are online with an online coloring page. We use several Edmark software: Bailey's Bookhouse, Trudy's Time and Place, Millie's Math House, Sammy's Science House. Clifford's Phonics and Reader Rabbit are two more favorites.

Fall Party Fun

At Rainbow Preschool we have a Fall Party, a Winter Party, a Spring Party and an End of the Year Party. This week we had our Fall Party. The children dressed up in fun costumes and played special activities. In this photo, the children are doing balloon batting. A fun activity that works on gross motor and eye-hand coordination.

What's Needed for School PHOTO: Each child needs a head shot photo about the size of a quarter for the coatroom name tags.
CHANGE OF CLOTHING: Each child needs to have a complete change of clothing (pants or shorts, shirt, underwear, and socks) to be kept at school. Place the clothing in a zip lock plastic bag and mark your child's name and class in permanent marker on the bag.
SUPPLIES: TIGERS: 6 roll package of paper towels and 3 packages of drink size paper cups
BEARS: 6 roll package of paper towels, 1 package of paper drinking cups, and a box of Kleenex
LION KINGS: 6 roll package of paper towels, and 2 packages of paper napkins
LION CUBS: 2 packages of paper drinking cups and a 4 roll package of toilet paper.

Rainbow Planted Pinwheels

The Rainbow children planted pinwheels for Child Abuse Awareness Month. The children were told that each pinwheel they "planted" helped keep a child happy and safe. 742 blue pinwheels were planted by the Rainbow children. It was a rainy day but the children did not mind. They each received a t-shirt, a blue pinwheel to keep and a delicious sugar cookie. The blue pinwheels are a beautful sight for such sad events. Young children can help make a difference in others' lives. RAINBOW ROCKS!!!!!

Rainbow's Curriculum

Rainbow Cooperative Preschool is child-centered and gears its program to help each child develop at his or her own pace. The school is organized to promote each child's physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth through a variety of individual and group activities. The developmentally appropriate curriculum encourages curiosity, resourcefulness, responsibility, and creativity while developing self-assurance, independence and social awareness in preparation for kindergarten.

Homeliving Center/Dress Up

This is a picture of the Homeliving Center and Dress Up corner. The children enjoy cooking and dressing up in their pretend play.

February Visitor

Officer Robin Short visited the
Rainbow Lions, Tigers and Bears to talk to them about "Stranger Safety." She taught the children to say NO! to a stranger, to run, run, and run and to tell Mom, Dad, babysitter, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, teacher, etc. Officer Robin, also, had McGruff the crime eating dog puppet and a tape with a song about Stranger Safety. This a a very important lesson for our preschool children.

Rainbow Playhouse

These photos show February's playhouse theme which is Rainbow Post Office. Each month the playhouse has a different theme to promote socio-dramatic play and to enhance reading and writing literacy. Other themes throughout the year include: Rainbow Restaurant, Rainbow Hospital, Rainbow Grocery Store, Rainbow Fire Station, and Rainbow Barber/Beauty Shop. The children have a lot of pretending and assuming a role in their pretend play.

Bringing the Snow Inside

Since it was too cold to play outside in the snow, I brought the snow inside for the children to play with it in the Sensory Table. The Tigers worked together and made this indoor snowman. Too cute!!!

High Five Presentation

Rainbow Preschool recently had a visit from Miss Terry, a Health Educator nurse from Wood County Hospital. Miss Terry talked to the children about washing their hands to stop germs from spreading. In this photo you can see Miss Terry and her High Five display. The children learned the five steps to washing their hands. They were instructed to wash their hands for 20 seconds (about as long as it takes to sing the ABC song). So, children who attend Rainbow are now singing the ABC song whenever and where ever they wash their hands. Miss Terry gave the children a sticker, a bar of soap and an informational coloring pamphlet. Many thanks to Miss Terry and the Wood County Hospital!!!!

Rainbow's Art Gallery

This photo was taken in the Art Room. Some "winter" art projects are hanging up to dry. We made penguins, painted with marshmellows, finger ice-skated on foil and painted snow on trees. Enjoy our Art Gallery. Rainbow Preschool has some budding young artists!!

Our Mitten Tree

This year Rainbow Cooperative Preschool had a "Mitten Tree." The children brought in hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves to donate to the Cocoon Shelter. The children were very excited to donate their items to help children who do not have hats, gloves, etc. to keep them warm in the winter. The response was overwhelming. We presented our donations with love and caring.

Rainbow Cooperative Preschool is a parent owned and operated preschool serving children ages 3 years to 5 years. Rainbow is located at 541 1/2 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, OH. Rainbow's phone number is (419)352-5437(KIDS).
The children attend part-time. Rainbow has three classes. The Bears (3 year olds) attend Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 9:10-11:40am. The Tigers (4 and 5 year olds) attend Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings from 9:10-11:40am. The Lion Cubs (3 year olds) attend Monday & Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-3:00 pm. The Lion Kings (4 and 5 year olds) attend Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons 12:30-3:00 pm.
Parents in Rainbow serve on two committees and work in the classroom on a rotating basis. Rainbow has 1 lead teacher, Belva Kallenbach, who is now teaching her 21st year at the preschool. She is known as Mrs. "K" to the children and families. Mrs. "K" has a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education/ Special Needs from BGSU and is licensed by the Ohio Department of Education.
